TL;DR – The good, the not-so-good and the ugly.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 5 days (or not following our Facebook page closely enough), Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat collapsed from a stroke on 12 May Thursday during a Cabinet meeting. He is now in stable condition but will remain in the ICU for some time. During this period, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be covering the duties of the Minister for Finance.
As predicted, there has been much buzz about this and response has been quite varied. Here are some reactions from Singaporeans from different walks of life:
1) Mere mortal, or not?
2) We can’t get enough (of by-elections)
3) Shanmugam – 1, troll – 0
4) Life lessons from mrbrown
5) United we stand

6) People first, and politicians second

9) We STILL can’t get enough
And for the record, emotions aside also, nope there won’t be any by-election.
