Did ST just report that President Tony Tan invites the Thai King to Singapore… to eat KFC?

By December 3, 2016Current

TL;DR – Woah.

Thailand’s new King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun ascended the throne on Thursday 1 Dec, and it appears that according to The Straits Times, President Tony Tan invited him to Singapore…

To enjoy some fried chicken.

The article is now headlined as President Tan conveys best wishes to Thailand’s new King, invites him to visit Singapore and on Facebook as follows,

But you know what they say, the Internet never forgets.

– Update at 4:45pm –

It just came to our attention that the KFC version of the headline was not by ST, but was instead modified by Facebook page SBS – Sure Boh Singapore when they shared the article.

A pretty good one, I must say.

– Update at 8:30pm –

ST has updated on their Facebook page about the modified headline as an “act of mischief” and that they are currently “investigating the matter”.

Guess there won’t be fried chicken for the Thai King after all.
