These veteran military dogs are looking for their forever home

TL;DR – Adoption drive ends 4 May.

In a Facebook post uploaded by the Ministry of Defence on Monday 2 April, some 11 retired veterans from the Military Working Dog Unit (MWDU) are looking for their “forever home”.

These service dogs have had basic obedience training and have also went through regular health checks by in-house vets as well as annual vaccinations and a routine heartworm and parasite prevention programme.

Interested parties should call the Military Working Dog Unit at 6424 6623 (9am to 5pm on weekdays) to arrange a visit.

“Play” is his business! This active dog enjoys frolicking around and playing fetch with just about anyone. Big, fluffy and loveable, he warms up to new faces easily.
A gentle giant that snuggles up to people and loves getting pats, Trip is sure to be well-loved by everyone in the family and bring plenty of fun and joy to your home.

Affectionate towards human and dogs alike, this chocolate lab will be a great fit in any family. However, it’s best for Doxter to get an experienced owner as he is stronger than he looks!
He’s fond of playing fetch and going long walks, but his main motivation? Food! So get your treats ready and shower him with lots of love.

Ajax is a loyal and obedient dog, who loves to run around. He’s naturally timid, so it may take some time for you to gain his trust, but we promise it’ll be worth it!
His sweet and gentle nature makes him easy to handle. And even though he’s getting on years, he is still agile and enjoys going for walks and playing ball. We’re sure Ajax will bring his new owner a lot of fun and joy.

With her dark, sleek coat of fur, Jofa looks younger than her age. She likes to spend her time lazing around during the day, but perks up whenever there is food or a toy (something as simple as a tennis ball will do!).
Though not the most outwardly affectionate, she deserves all the love you can give! Her calm presence will make a great addition to any home.

Playful jumps from side to side with a few excited whines is how Dan says “Hello!” His love for tennis balls is “one of a kind”, and he will gladly play fetch any time, any day.
Dan’s devotion to his owner is clear – he can be protective if there’s an unfamiliar presence. This loyal buddy definitely deserves to be showered with lots of love and treats.

Intelligent and independent, Beta is good with commands and will make an excellent pet dog. This smart lady also has her playful side – she can be a little difficult to play fetch with because she rarely returns the toy (tennis ball)!

This dignified dog may look like a “macho man”, but don’t be fooled – he’s actually the affectionate type! Constantly on alert to greet any approaching handler, he will love spending time with his owner and is an adorable companion not to be missed.
Matcho is partially blind in his left eye but is not visibly affected by it.

Friendly and playful, Vivi and loves to be doted on with treats, toys, cuddles and massages! You will love stroking her shiny brown fur which is easy to maintain.
She’s very active for her age and is always down for a walk or a game of fetch. Shower her with lots of love and affection, and she is sure to provide the same!

Danny may take some time to warm up to someone new, but is sure to respond with affection once you gain his trust. A big dog with lots of fluff, he enjoys nothing more than a good rub and belly scratch, as well as going on walks.
Danny is deaf, but responds well to human body language.

Samba never fails to express her excitement when she sees her handler. She loves company – it doesn’t matter if it’s just chilling by your side or chasing a ball. End her day with a relaxing grooming session – with that smooth, jet black fur coat, we think she has the aura of a beauty queen!

Egon will enjoy strolls around the neighbourhood. Still very active for his age, he loves being around his handlers and will stick close when going for walks.
Loyal and obedient, Egon is always happy to receive attention. So don’t hold back on giving him lots of pats and that extra-big hug!

The adoption drive ends on 4 May and the MWDU will continue to take full care of any dogs who are not adopted.
