You can’t buy rum rum raisin ice cream after 10:30pm…

TL;DR – Cos might lead to riot?

The Little India riot in 2013 was the first major riot in Singapore in over 40 years since the 1969 race riot. About 300 migrant labourers were involved in the riot which lasted for around two hours. After the incident, a committee of inquiry (COI) to study the reasons for the riot. The COI found that alcohol was a “major contributory factor” for the riot breaking out.

As a result of that COI, the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act was passed in January 2015.

That Act means, amongst other things, retail shops are also not allowed to sell takeaway alcohol from 10.30pm to 7am. Sure. There seems to be good reasons to not sell alcohol after 10:30pm. It could be useful to prevent public disorder.

Apparently, because of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act, you can’t get this after 10:30pm from FairPrice Xpress too:

Shops can’t sell Rum Rum Raisin ice-cream from 10:30pm to 7am… (via)

Yes. The ice-cream is alcoholic. It has 3.9% alcohol by volume. But… it’s hard to think that anyone can get drunk by eating rum rum raisin ice-cream… Or… to think that anyone would be raising (hur hur hur) hell after eating tubs and tubs of rum rum raisin ice-cream. Makes me wonder how many tubs of rum rum raisin one needs to eat before getting drunk and go out rampaging on the streets…

So… what else can’t be sold after 10:30pm to 7am?

XO Fish Head Bee Hoon? That one also got alcohol that could get to the head and make people drunk, right?

Or how about tiramisu? Some of the better tiramisu also has alcohol in them. So does that mean that shops can’t sell takeaway tiramisu after 10:30pm to 7am?

Ah well… In any case, I guess this is good advertisement for Udders. It goes to show that their Rum Rum Raisin is really power. Power enough for the government to not allow it to be sold between 10:30pm and 7am.

There’s one thing we aren’t sure about though. Under Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act, drinking is banned in all public places from 10.30pm to 7am.

If the ice-cream can’t be sold because it is deemed to be alcoholic, does that mean that eating that ice-cream in public places from 10:30pm to 7am is also banned?

In any case, better be safe. If you want to eat Udders’ rum rum and raisin ice-cream, don’t do so in public places between 10:30pm and 7am. You’ve been warned.
