TL;DR – Crazy good piece of news.

This is almost a no-brainer actually. With three bestselling titles in the series, it is little wonder why the rest of the books won’t be adapted into movies.

But if you need confirmation, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros.’ is moving forward with development on the follow-up, with plans to reunite the first movie’s original team, including producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and John Penotti of Ivanhoe.

That being said though, Warner Bros. has yet to officially confirm the sequel (or sequels) –  it’s standard practice for a studio to take a wait-and-see approach with a new potential franchise  – but after raking in $34 million at the box office over opening weekend, we say the deal’s practically sealed if such performance keeps up in the following weeks.

This is the first Hollywood studio movie since 1993’s The Joy Luck Club to feature an all Asian ensemble and this might mean we will see Fiona Xie getting more screen time as her character Kitty Pong becomes a lot more significant in books two and three.
