Also known as festival of lights, Deepavali is celebrated by Indians all over the world as a festival symbolising triumph of light over darkness. According to North Indian traditions, it is celebrated to honour the victory of Lord Rama over King Ravana and his return back home after 14 years of exile.
For some of us, this means a public holiday (yay!) and if you are thinking what to do today with your family, here are some ideas:
Istana Deepavali Open House
In commemoration of Deepavali, the Istana grounds will be open to the public on Tuesday, 6th November from 8.30am to 6.00pm.
During the Deepavali Istana Open House, visitors are able to enjoy a wide range of activities planned. Such activities would be face painting balloon sculpturing, Display of Birds by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore, band performances as well as Indian Dance performances.
Entry to the Istana is free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents. All other visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of $2 per person. Entry to the Istana grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. The nearest MRT station is Dhoby Ghaut.
Deepavali Light-up and Festival Bazaar 2018
From now to 25th November, 2018, do catch the annual Deepavali Light-up at Serangoon Road and Race Course Road at Little India. It is illuminated by 2 million lightbulbs this year.
Those looking forward to buying Indian ethnic wear, jewelry, decorations and traditional snacks may visit the festival bazaar from now till November 6.

From now till 6 Nov 2018, be sure to catch the gorgeous display of 101 two feet x two feet traditional floor artworks made up of 101 different materials at The Colonnade.
