TL;DR – The supermarket is now better prepared and sufficiently stocked as compared to last year.
Before you decide to head down to the nearest supermarket to panic-buy and stockpile on your toilet paper and whatnot after hearing the announcement that Singapore will be tightening the COVID-19 measures from 16 May 2021 to 13 June 2021, please take five minutes to read on and you will realise that there is really no need for you to do that.
In a Facebook post, Fairprice Group chief executive Seah Kian Peng reiterated the message at the onset of DORSCON Orange last year, which is “no need to rush, and buy what you need”.
He also assured the public that inventory and stockpiles are at higher levels than before, and they are better prepared than they were compared to last year.
NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng has also re-shared a hilarious meme that has been going around in a Facebook post, reminding Singaporeans to do their part by not rushing to the stores and to buy only what is necessary as NTUC FairPrice has increased the stocks of essential items as of last year.
The labour chief also urged Singaporeans to also show consideration for one another while keeping safe amidst the pandemic.
Separately, NTUC FairPrice has also taken to their Facebook page to assure the public that they have sufficient supplies to meet the needs of customers, and their key priority is in ensuring that all daily essentials remain available any time, all the time.

So there you go! There’s no need to panic hoard. Stay calm and only buy what you need.
