TL;DR – Eye power game strong.

You have probably seen memes of Finance Minister Lawrence Wong ‘kena arrow’ by Health Minister Ong Ye Kung and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong during a Covid-19 press conference making rounds on the Internet.

In case you are not sure what happened that got Singaporeans so amused over this press conference which sparked the memes galore, here’s a summary of what happened:

  • The three ministers, who co-chair the Multi-ministry Taskforce (MTF) on Covid-19, were giving updates on Singapore’s Covid-19 situation at a virtual press conference that was broadcast live to the public on Monday (31 May).
  • During the MTF question and answer session, a reporter posted a question about the possibility of another Covid-19 spike in Singapore, and if the new variant purportedly detected in Vietnam has been found here.
  • Upon hearing the question, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung looked to his right at the finance minister. Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong, who was seated in between both men, also looked at the finance minister, who paused before answering the question.

Here’s a video of the moment if you have not seen it:

Lawrence Wong said he “had a good laugh” at the memes

In response to the memes, the finance minister said in a Facebook post that he, too, had a good laugh at the memes.

Tagging both Minister Ong Ye Kung and Minister Gam Kim Yong in the post, he said that it is not about who answers the questions and that they all work closely together to fight the pandemic.

Check out Minister Ong Ye Kung’s reply to Minister Wong below:

Keke, quite cute!

Not gonna lie, but this is by far the most comical scene in all the MTF press conferences so far!

As we continue to stand united in our fight against the pandemic, it certainly is endearing to see that our politicians are sharing such a light-hearted moment with Singaporeans too 😊

I read lots, and I also spend an indecent amount of time trying to get my mostly unpopular opinions published. Oh, I argue a lot with fellow Singaporeans who complain incessantly about Singapore too.
