Senior citizens from the Pioneer and Merdeka generations can continue to enjoy a 3% discount when they shop at NTUC FairPrice on selected weekdays as the supermarket extends its discount schemes for seniors for another year till 31 December 2022.
NTUC FairPrice extends Pioneer & Merdeka Generation discount schemes until 31 December 2021
In a press release, FairPrice said that other than the senior citizens, low-income families holding the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue card can also continue to enjoy further savings for another year at all FairPrice stores and Unity pharmacies.
1-year extension to cost more than $11 million
The extensions are estimated to cost the supermarket chain more than $11 million, in addition to more than $54 million in discounts given to Pioneer Generation (PG) members, Merdeka Generation (MG) members, seniors, and CHAS Blue cardholders since 2015.
Group chief executive of FairPrice Group Seah Kian Peng said he hopes that the extension of the schemes can provide financial relief to seniors and those who are less fortunate and are affected by uncertainties caused by the prolonged pandemic. And at the same time, help to build a more resilient society.
Pioneer Generation Proxy initiative to be extended
Besides extending its discount schemes, FairPrice will also be extending its PG Proxy initiative that allows family members of seniors to enjoy savings when they assist PG members to run grocery errands.
The initiative will be extended till 30 June 2022, and family members need to present the PG card of their kin to enjoy the discount.
Here are the four discount schemes offered by FairPrice to help seniors and low-income families stretch their dollars further when shopping at FairPrice:

To enjoy the discount, shoppers will need to present their Merdeka or Pioneer Generation card at the cashier counters when checking out at FairPrice stores.
Shoppers who opt for self-checkout are required to select the Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation discount option at the self-checkout machines. The discount is subject to a $200 cap for each transaction per day.
