Watched the latest local production ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ AGGA yet?

Apparently, it’s done very, very well. 62-year-old Singaporean director Jack Neo put up a video on social media this week sharing that Ah Girls Go Army has made S$1.15 million at the box office. He also thanked his supporters and urged more to watch.

Hmm…

Starring Apple Chan, Glenn Yong, Yang Guang Ke Le, Belle Chua, Xixi Lim, this is the 5th film in the Ah Boys To Men franchise. ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ is a comedy about women serving national service to protect the country.

Apparently, ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ was produced in record speed – in barely 2.5 months. Talk about Neo-style productivity!

As expected, just like his other movies, Neo’s ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ is packed with product placements. Ogawa, Livingcare and Nippon Paint… Just to name a few…

From the get-go, ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ has been making headlines. Some have slammed Neo for finding it funny to name Xixi Lim’s plus-sized recruit ‘Yuan Yuanyuan’ (‘Yuan’ = ‘Round’ in mandarin). The 33-year-old actress recently shot down criticisms that she was fat-shamed. Instead, she feels her character will give plus-sized women more confidence. Others have called it the “worst movie of 2022”.

Naysayers aside, what does it matter? Ka-ching! Within 3 days of opening, Neo’s ‘Ah Girls Go Army’ made S$1.15 million…You got to give it to that man lah!

Even Tosh Zhang who played the role of ‘Sergeant Ong’ in the record-breaking ‘Ah Boys to Men’ movie series took to social media to celebrate the franchise’s success and shunbian slam “loser-ass haters”.
