TL;DR – The Omega x Swatch watch felt super super super cheap, and not worth its price.
Last Saturday (26 March) morning saw Singaporeans flocking to Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and ION Orchard, just so that they could get their hands on the new Omega x Swatch collaboration.
Not only insanely long queues were formed at the respective malls, but the situation of the crowds gathering at the Swatch outlets was apparently quite heated as well.
In a TikTok video that went viral, one man was seen shouting at a police officer, asking the police officer to shoot him with his gun.
@ruitianbear Dude literally told the police in chinese “pull your gun and shoot me la!” Just becuase he can’t get the Omega X Swatch Watch… 😵💫 #omega #omegaxswatch #swatch #orchardion #singapore #watch #shootmela ♬ original sound – Bear
The viral video later sparked a response from Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam, who took to a Facebook post to weigh in on this incident.
In his Facebook post, the Home Affairs and Law Minister said that the frustrations over queues are no reason to shout at police officers and added that this is not a life and death issue and that there was no reason to “lose out minds over these situations”.
Following the hype of the launch, a man in Hong Kong who has gotten his hands on the watch doesn’t seem to be very pleased with his new watch.
According to him, his Mission to Neptune watch came with scratches all over and it felt “super super super cheap”. He opined that while the watch is not expensive, it is nevertheless not worth its price.
He then went on to talk about how the blue dye on the planet imprinted at the back of the watch left a stain on his skin after he went to a party.
The man also talked about how he did not expect to receive a high-end quality watch, yet he still couldn’t help but expect more from Omega, since they do produce good-quality quartz watches.
The netizen then concluded his post by saying: “It’s a cool collab and but overall it’s underwhelming and not worth what the hype says it’s worth.”
