Squid Game Season 2

TL;DR – There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season.

South Korean director and creator of the hit Netflix series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently confirmed the news that the Squid is making a comeback in an interview with Associated Press! Netflix x Squid Game fans rejoice!

Released in September 2021, “Squid Game” follows Seong Gi-Hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he and hundreds of other contestants compete in a violent competition to win US$38 million.

A dramatised survival game in the vein of “Hunger Games” and nine-episode series about a world where children’s games turn deadly, Squid Game is the first Korean drama to top the charts on Netflix, reaching that milestone in mere four days after release. According to Netflix, the show is the platform’s biggest-ever series launch.

At a red carpet celebration alongside lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, Hwang Dong-hyuk shared, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season.”

However, the director did not provide any details because Season 2 is still early in the planning process. Well, but at least it gives fans something to look forward to in an otherwise “boring” Covid-19 world!

“It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen,” Hwang explained. What a tease! But oh, he has promised that Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world…
